Value

All these factors: Color, Cut, Carat Weight, Clarity, & Cost come together to determine the beauty as well as the price of the diamond. It is important to know what you are looking for when purchasing a diamond, and having the right information will help you make an educated decision.

Diamond Pricing Guide

First always compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Lets start with the basics:

1. All certificates are not created equal. The number one certificate in the world is a GIA certificate issued by the Gemological Institute of America. Our pricing guide that you can consult, assumes a GIA certificate. A lesser certificate would lower the price depending on the quality of the laboratory issuing the certificate would lower the price depending on the quality of the laboratory issuing the certificate. If evaluating certificates issued by a lab other than GIA, they would be in order of importance in the world diamond trade:

  • AGS,
  • HRD,
  • IGI,
  • EGL, and
  • GGL.

Certificates issued by small regional or local labs carry very little weight in the trading of diamonds.

2. The cutting, or the way the diamond is shaped and proportioned, and polish of the diamond is the most important quality that brings out the fire and scintillation or more simply stated, the beauty of the diamond. Unfortunately you will have trouble unscrambling this most critical component of value. That's ok since there is disagreement among members of the industry as to which cutting proportions maximize the brilliance of a diamond. The only certificate that address cutting is the AGS certificate and a large part of the diamond trade believes that their definition is WRONG. The only effective method to insure you receive the prettiest diamond is to compare several diamonds side by side.

3. Quality: Everyone wants quality. I always suggest that you buy the best diamond you can afford since it will be treasured everyday for the rest of your life. If you can afford it, buy a well-cut, internally flawless, D, 1 carat diamond and be done with it.

In the real world budget considerations dictate our options but let me explain; a good combination of color, clarity, and fine cutting and polish will give you 97of the beauty of the internally flawless D perfect diamond, at a fraction of the cost. Want to see for yourself? Visit our showroom and we will show you side-by side comparisons.

VALUE for dollar spent is the key.
